This workshop was developed for speech language therapists and collaborating teachers whos goals include facilitating vocalizations and increased intelligibility. Teaching procedures are based on principles of ABA that emphasize B.F. Skinners analysis of verbal behavior. Videotaped examples and modeling of assessment and teaching procedures will be utilized to assist in training and application of these skills. Training will include program development and maintenance.
Participants will learn to:
Identify B.F. Skinners verbal operants
Facilitate pairing with reinforcement for speech sessions
Teach carryover of functional communication
Identify candidates for vocal vs. non-vocal language training
Assess echoic and speech skills
Determine student profiles
Learn correlating procedures to increase vocalizations
Collect data on vocalizations
Progress through described procedure levels
Maintain program focus towards overall intelligibility
